October 25, 1862 Camp Carter, E. Tennessee Dear Father I am well. I got your letter by G. W. Dills. I was glad to hear that you were all well. I will keep G.W. here 8 or 10 days till I get answer from the 25th Reg. if possible. If I cannot make some arrangements for to keep him here I will send him on & when I get someone to take his place I will take him on down & make an exchange if I can. I will do the best I can. I fear I can not make a swap at this time without keeping here too long. You will send G.W. his transportation by A.J. Dills. It is in the pocketbook that Mother has got. Send it without fail. See that my family is provided for. Keep them around. See that their corn is taken care of, for if she gets out of corn next summer, it will be a bad case. See Leander Green. He is coming home on furlough and see if he will let me have 3 or 4 bushels of rye. If he won't take money for it, swap him corn. I will furnish money to buy the corn. He has promised me to swap it or sell it to me. Sow it at the Reynolds place and cut it and pay yourself out of it.
Write to me soon. The boys are well. |
